Tim Burson, the former CEO of the digital currency exchange Coinbase, has been the subject of an FBI investigation since October 2015, according to a court document filed Tuesday.
The court document claims Burton knew of and approved the scheme and was responsible for facilitating the money transfers.
Burton is accused of funneling more than $100 million in bitcoins into an account in the name of a company called Silk Road.
The documents state Burton’s attorneys “have asked that no one be named in this case.”
Burton, who was previously arrested on two counts of securities fraud, is expected to be arraigned in a court on Wednesday.
Burson’s attorneys have asked for bail to be set at $250,000.
Burston, who is accused by the FBI of being the mastermind behind Silk Road, was arrested by federal agents on December 6, 2015, and remains in custody.
The FBI said it was looking into Burton because it “may be possible that he is cooperating with investigators.”
He is scheduled to appear in court on January 10.
