The Time Warner cable link is the latest step in a massive expansion of the cable industry in Europe.
The cable network is already used by major ISPs such as Vodafone, T-Mobile, Sky and BT, and has also been used by a number of smaller operators, including the Polish telco, Poland Telecom.
The Time Warner Cable Link is being rolled out across a number more countries in Europe, but the biggest expansion is likely to come to Ireland, which is home to the largest number of Time Warner customers.
There is also a €40 million investment in Ireland by Time Warner.
“This investment will create up to 40,000 jobs in the next five years,” said Time Warner Chief Executive Officer Kevin Cruickshank, “and the future of the Irish telecom industry is clear.
It will deliver world-class network and broadband services to the people of Ireland, including access to the fastest broadband in the country.”
The expansion is expected to cost an estimated €5 billion, according to the company.
